Neighborhoods Visited: South Shore, Woodlawn, Hyde Park/Kenwood This tour traces the footsteps of a young Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, "girl of the south side", from her coming-of-age to her dating years with a charming Barack "Barry" Obama, and through the couple's formative years in the Hyde Park and Kenwood neighborhoods. Guests explore the former residences, buildings and institutions that influenced their values, leadership and enduring commitment to public service. The experience is expertly led by South Side Tours’ founder, an Obama for America alum and Whitney M. Young Magnet High School graduate, whose lived experience and insider perspective offer a rare, nuanced point of view that goes beyond the headlines and into the south side communities that helped shape their lives and legacy.
