WHY SOUTH SIDE TOURS
Every Chicagoan has a story to tell. South Side Tours seeks to change the global narrative of Chicago’s South Side by humanizing its inhabitants and immortalizing their history as gentrification expands and communities evolve. This is a moving museum made possible by those who’ve come before us and our mission is to preserve their stories long after they’re gone. There are countless important public figures and celebrities who hail from the South Side, and it is the extraordinary everyday people who make the South Side a historic cornerstone in America.

About the Owner
Angela Y. Dugan
Born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, Angela is a filmmaker and seasoned television producer who has developed and executive produced unscripted series for networks such as Netflix, WETV and OWN, including the culturally-acclaimed Love and Marriage franchise. She is also the writer-director of the South Side based short film, “Jermaine”, which screened at festivals across the country including Chicago’s very own Black Harvest Film Festival, in addition to the festival-award winning web series, “The Cat Lady Chronicles”. Her passion for storytelling began as a child, writing short stories for her parents to read and continued to evolve through the Video Production curriculum at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. From there, her love of oral history grew as a transcriber for the Bronx African-American History Project while a student at Fordham University.
Angela truly believes Chicago is the heart of America, and the South Side is the heart of Chicago. By meshing her love of storytelling with media, her hope is to dispel the stereotypes surrounding the South Side.
